We all need to say a prayer for protection from evil and temptation. Use this prayer daily to call upon God to provide a hedge of protection around you and your loved ones.
The forces of evil surround us in this human world. This can be a dangerous world – both from external dangers and from the dangers of sin that invade our own mind and soul.
Seek God’s help for protection, to keep us strong and firmly rooted in our faith, so that we can withstand the trials of this world.
Prayer for Protection
Heavenly Father, my God, protect me. Defend me from the evil that surrounds me and tempts me daily. Protect me from the evil within, the thoughts that invade my mind and hurt my soul. For you are my help and my salvation. I cling to you and your right hand upholds me. I will praise your name and glorify you, for you are life and light. You are all I need and I will ever seek you. Amen.
Scripture for the Week
Psalm 63 (NIV)
1 You, God, are my God,
earnestly I seek you;
I thirst for you,
my whole being longs for you,
in a dry and parched land
where there is no water.
2 I have seen you in the sanctuary
and beheld your power and your glory.
3 Because your love is better than life,
my lips will glorify you.
4 I will praise you as long as I live,
and in your name I will lift up my hands.
5 I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods;
with singing lips my mouth will praise you.
6 On my bed I remember you;
I think of you through the watches of the night.
7 Because you are my help,
I sing in the shadow of your wings.
8 I cling to you;
your right hand upholds me.
9 Those who want to kill me will be destroyed;
they will go down to the depths of the earth.
10 They will be given over to the sword
and become food for jackals.
11 But the king will rejoice in God;
all who swear by God will glory in him,
while the mouths of liars will be silenced.
Collect
Almighty God, you know that we have no power in ourselves to help ourselves: Keep us both outwardly in our bodies and inwardly in our souls, that we may be defended from all adversities which may happen to the body, and from all evil thoughts which may assault and hurt the soul; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
