Living God’s Possible in an Impossible World

I’m a big fan of those home makeover shows. You know, the ones where they come into a home that’s seen better days and fix it up to look like something from a magazine. Some of the houses are are old and neglected and need significant structural work before they can be beautified. Others need little more than a good cleaning and decluttering, plus some cosmetic improvements like new paint and flooring. The moment I love best, though, is the big reveal. We’re reminded of how the house looked ‘before’ and then the homeowners are walked through the ‘after.’ I’m always struck by how the homeowners take in the changes. They’ve been ‘making do’ and living in their ‘less than’ for so long and now they have this ‘more than’ and see their home through new eyes.

Today is the “big reveal” of a major makeover on my virtual home here. I’d begun to notice this site was getting a little shabby, a bit cluttered and run-down. Most of all, it didn’t clearly reflect me or why I write. So, I’ve been busy working on this makeover. I hope you’ll take a minute to look around and tour my new “home.”

As we stop at the front door, I’d like to highlight the revised focus for this blog: Living God’s Possible in an Impossible World.

This site is all about learning to live into God’s possible, in this oftentimes impossible world. Learning to trust God’s promise in Matthew 19:26:

“With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26)

Everything you find here should hang off that statement.

• How do we start living into God’s promises and trust that He’s bigger than our all the impossibles in our world?
• How do we get to know Him well enough to trust His plans for our lives, especially when the world around us asks us to put our trust and focus elsewhere?
• How do we stay rooted in Christ and focus on following Jesus, rather than following the things of this world?

To live into God’s possible in this impossible world, we need to focus in a few key areas:

Pray Deeply

Prayer is at the core of relationship with God, so we need to invest in our prayer life and keep it vibrant and focused. You’ll find loads of resources on prayer here – how to pray, what is prayer, what is the power of prayer, more than 20 different methods for prayer, and a library of written prayers to get you started.

I have also written several prayer journals to lead you through focused seasons of prayer, typically for 21 days, with an emphasis on exploring a variety of prayer methods to ignite your prayer life.

Trust God Fully

Trusting God fully may be the hardest part of faith. Here you’ll find resources on taking Sabbath and finding stillness with God. Letting Him refill you and lead you forward. Discerning and listening to God to find your purpose. Trusting God through life’s changes and the storms that inevitably blow in. Learning to trust in God’s provision and just-in-time equipping.

Study Purposefully

Studying the Bible is essential to our faith walk, so we’ll look at how to study the Bible and also dig into scripture. Spiritual disciplines are taking our study of God’s word and combining it with spiritual practices to deepen our spiritual formation. In addition, I plan to add some Bible studies here. The first two are Discipleship with Peter and Surrendering to the Holy Spirit. Look for more to come…

Live Generously

Faith isn’t just something we have on the inside, but also something we live out visibly and vocally. We serve others, give of our time, talents, and treasures, build community, and encourage each other. We share our stories of faith to spread the hope we’ve found with others.
