How The Power of Prayer Changes Your Heart [VIDEO]

Prayer

The power of prayer can change your heart. Be encouraged in your own prayers. Keep praying, even if you're not sure they're working. Learn to pray through God's Word, using scripture in your prayers. Know that prayer doesn't need a lot of words or even fancy, eloquent words. Simple prayers can be powerful.

It started for me with a simple prayer.

“God, take these burdens and carry them for me a while.”

A prayer I wasn’t sure would work. In truth, I wasn’t sure prayer worked at all.

I’d prayed my heart over too many loved ones, only to be disillusioned and disappointed when the prayers didn’t turn out as I’d hoped. I figured the God of the universe was just too big to care about little ol me. But, I was out of other solutions, so I decided to give prayer another chance.

Over the months that I prayed this prayer, I met God. A real, personal, relational God who loved me and wanted to be in my life.

I still pray these simple, yet life-changing prayers.

“God, take this burden and carry it for me.”

“God, I’m handing over this problem to you and I’m trusting in your solution.”

“God, guide my steps and lead me where you want me to go.”

But, I’ve also discovered the power and beauty of praying through God’s Word.

One of my favorite ways to pray is through scripture – reminding myself of God’s promises and claiming them for myself and those I’m praying for.

I’ve enriched my prayer language with powerful descriptions and names for God.

I’ve found words in the Psalms to express emotions I couldn’t quite articulate.

And I’ve learned to tune into God’s voice in my life by listening for him in the pages of my Bible.

Prayer has become my stronghold, my comfort, my compass leading me forward.

Prayer is a vital part of my life. So much so that God’s put a passion in my heart to write and share about prayer. I’m no longer a skeptic of prayer, but one who’s experienced the life-giving power of prayer in my life.

My prayer is that you will explore the power of prayer for your life and that you’ll also meet the real, personal God who loves you dearly.
