A prayer for a new year. As we embark upon a new year, pray for new beginnings and fresh starts through Christ. For God can make all things new.
A Prayer for a New Year
Heavenly Father, as we embark upon a new year, remind my heart to leave the old things behind and look ahead to a new year, full of fresh possibilities. For you are the God of the possible, not the impossible. You are the God of new beginnings, not living in the past. You are the God of miracles, who can make a dry path through the sea, who can calm the wind and waves, who can bring forth water in the dry desert. Lord, fill my heart with your possibilities as I look toward this new year. Lead me closer to you and your great possibilities for my life as I seek to follow you ever more closely. Amen.
Isaiah 43:18-21 (The Message)
This is what God says,
the God who builds a road right through the ocean,
who carves a path through pounding waves,
The God who summons horses and chariots and armies—
they lie down and then can’t get up;
they’re snuffed out like so many candles:
“Forget about what’s happened;
don’t keep going over old history.
Be alert, be present. I’m about to do something brand-new.
It’s bursting out! Don’t you see it?
There it is! I’m making a road through the desert,
rivers in the badlands.
Wild animals will say ‘Thank you!’
—the coyotes and the buzzards—
Because I provided water in the desert,
rivers through the sun-baked earth,
Drinking water for the people I chose,
the people I made especially for myself,
a people custom-made to praise me.
