We hear that we should pray to God and believe he is listening and will answer our prayers, but many days that’s easier said than done. Some days prayer feels like you’re talking to the wall. You’ve prayed the same prayer over and over for days, months, even years, and still no response. Is God really listening? Does prayer really work? How can I be sure of God’s faithfulness through prayer?
We all have our doubts. It’s a natural part of the human condition. So, on those days you’re not sure, cling to these promises that God is by your side listening to your prayers, that God will answer your prayers in his way and in his time, that God’s power to change lives surpasses any human understanding, and that God will be your strength and shelter in the storms of life.
Prayer is not monologue, but dialogue. Gods voice in response to mine is its most essential part. ~ Andrew Murray

God will answer your prayers

“You, Lord, are forgiving and good,
abounding in love to all who call to you.
Hear my prayer, Lord;
listen to my cry for mercy.
When I am in distress, I call to you,
because you answer me.” Psalm 86:5-7 (NIV)
“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” Mark 11:24 (ESV)
God’s power to change lives surpasses all human power and understanding
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek his will in all you do,
and he will show you which path to take.” Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT)
“Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” James 5:14-16 (NIV)
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7 (ESV)
Through prayer, God will be your shelter and strength through life’s storms
“God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.” Psalm 46:1-3 (NIV)
“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.” John 14:27 (NLT)
“Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,
and he delivered them from their distress.
He made the storm be still,
and the waves of the sea were hushed.
Then they were glad that the waters were quiet,
and he brought them to their desired haven.” Psalm 107:28-30 (ESV)
Take these promises to heart that God is faithful to your prayers
Keep praying, even when it doesn’t seem that God is listening.
Keep praising God, even when you can’t discern his work in your life.
Keep submitting to his will, even when you can’t make out the steps he’s laying before you.
Keep running to him first for shelter and strength in life’s storms.
For he is faithful and just and will stand by your side always. Prayer is powerful and prayer works. Keep praying until the eyes of your heart are opened to see it.
“Don’t pray when you feel like it. Have an appointment with the Lord and keep it. A man is powerful on his knees.” ~ Corrie Ten Boom
